History
1911
Wilhelm Binder – In 1911, a 20-year-old Wilhelm Binder from Germany embarked on a journey driven by his passion for creating and marketing precision components of outstanding quality. With just 8,500 Marks worth of equipment, he partnered with Rudolf Moog to establish the company W. Binder. By 1913, Wilhelm acquired Moog’s share and moved the business to a larger facility. When he was called to serve in World War I, his wife Ursula stepped in to lead the company, demonstrating remarkable resilience and commitment.
1972
The Holley Carburetor Company acquires a former Ram Tool Plant in Water Valley, Mississippi, where they produce distributors for Ford Motor Company and International Harvester. The company later expands its product offerings to include transmission control modulators
1996
BorgWarner acquired original equipment products and manufacturing operations from Holley and merged it with their Control Systems to from Air/Fluid Systems.
1997
Dutch Company ‘Schuttersveld’ Acquires Binder Group; Expansion Through Patents
In 1997, the Binder Group was acquired by the Dutch company Schuttersveld N.V. Schuttersveld, a renowned name in textile manufacturing for over a century and based in Enschede, Netherlands, was founded in 1859 by Hendrik Jan van Heek. In 1984, new ventures revitalized the company, steering Kendrion into a promising new direction. Following this, the group experienced steady growth, securing over 40 patents. Among the various spin-off products were a camera and an electric bicycle! However, setbacks necessitated workforce reductions and a reassessment of ambitions. Since 1999, strategic acquisitions have been a key focus of our growth strategy.
2001
Schuttersveld Becomes Kendrion
In mid-2001, the name “Schuttersveld” was changed to “Kendrion” to reflect our commitment to market leadership in niche B2B sectors, as well as to emphasize the health, autonomous growth, and profitability of our company. Today, a part of the company is an integral part of Solero Technologies.
2007
Acquisition of Linnig Antriebstechnik
Founded in 1971, Linnig Antriebstechnik is a German company specializing in electromagnetic fan clutches for buses. Since 1978, it has been developing technologies for electromagnetic drive applications for commercial vehicles at its facility in Markdorf, which is now part of Solero Technologies.
2011
Acquisition of FAS Controls
Based in Shelby, North Carolina, USA, FAS Controls operated in the automotive and truck markets, providing high-quality electromagnetic valves in addition to pressure switches and light modules. Today, the company is an integral part of Solero Technologies.
2013
Acquisition of Kuhnke Automation
Kendrion Kuhnke Automation, located in Malente, specializes in pneumatics, control technology, and electromagnets. It is part of the Industrial Actuators and Control (IAC) business unit within Kendrion N.V. The key markets served include machinery and equipment manufacturing, medical and analytical technology, aircraft interiors, as well as energy generation and transportation. The Industrial Actuators and Control division focuses on developing and delivering highly innovative and technologically advanced products for these specialized sectors. While the Automotive segment is now part of Solero Technologies, the Industrial segment remains with Kendrion.
2022
The Solero brand is established, and Dr. Donald R. James was appointed CEO. That same year, a new headquarters opened in Rochester Hills, Michigan.
Before in 2021 Atar Capital, a private investment firm, acquired BorgWarner’s North American Controls business to be operated independently of BorgWarner. The acquisition includes the Water Valley manufacturing facility along with related sales and engineering operations in Michigan.
2024
April 2024: Solero Technologies acquires Kendrion’s automotive business, enabling it to capitalize on emerging global opportunities in electrification and sustainability.
