Stefan Saum and Alexander Merz together represent leadership with depth, experience, and foresight at Solero’s Markdorf site.
Stefan has been working at the Markdorf location since 1997. Over the years, he has continuously advanced his career – from a precision engineering master craftsman with REFA certification to Head of Manufacturing, and later taking responsibility for Logistics. Since October 2025, he has served as Senior Manufacturing Manager, overseeing the operational management of the Solero site in Markdorf and contributing decades of expertise in production and process excellence.
Alexander has been based at the Villingen site since 2004. Through roles in Research & Development, Project Management, and Operations, he has developed a comprehensive understanding of the company as a whole. With his strategic mindset and cross-functional experience, he plays a key role in shaping Solero’s ongoing development. Since October 2025, Stefan and Alexander have jointly led the Markdorf site in a dual leadership model – clearly focused on operational excellence, innovation, and sustainable growth in the commercial vehicle sector.
Can you tell us about Markdorf’s role within Solero?
“We are Solero’s only plant dedicated mainly to LINNIG clutch production. Our small, high-profit team plays a key role in Solero’s success, particularly in the commercial vehicle sector. We focus on advanced electromagnetic and pneumatic LINNIG clutches, delivering solutions that enhance safety, efficiency, durability, and sustainability.”
What sets Markdorf apart in terms of products and industries?
“As Solero’s center of excellence for LINNIG clutch technology, we develop industry-leading solutions that optimize vehicle performance. Our LINNIG A/C compressor clutches, widely used in commercial vehicles, help minimize energy losses and improve overall efficiency.
With sustainability driving industry change, our expertise in energy-efficient LINNIG clutch solutions positions us at the forefront of this transition. We’re meeting the growing demand for eco-friendly, high-performance components that support cleaner, more efficient mobility. Beyond product development, our strong aftermarket support ensures customers have everything they need – from installation guidance to replacement parts – for long-term performance and reliability.”
With changing market demands and new vehicle technologies, how is Markdorf evolving to stay ahead?
“Our focus is on continuous innovation – developing new clutch solutions that align with evolving vehicle technologies. As hybrid and electric vehicle adoption increases, we’re adapting our products to support these markets. We’re also expanding beyond traditional automotive applications, exploring opportunities in off-highway and specialized vehicle sectors. By staying agile and responsive to industry trends, we ensure Markdorf remains a leader in clutch technology.”
How does your plant contribute to Solero’s global goals?
“Our clutch technology plays a vital role in driving more efficient and sustainable mobility. By enhancing energy efficiency and reducing emissions in commercial vehicles, we directly support Solero’s mission to advance both technology and environmental responsibility.
Though we are a small-volume plant, our high-value production and dedication to quality make us a trusted partner for OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers worldwide.”
How would you describe the culture at Markdorf?
“We foster a family-like atmosphere where transparency and open communication are key. We hold monthly meetings to share business updates, revenue insights, and plant developments. Every opinion matters, and teamwork is essential.
Think of us like a soccer team – each player brings unique skills, and together, we work toward a common goal. Because we’re a small team, everyone takes on a broader range of responsibilities. There’s no rigid job description – people step in where needed, which keeps our work both dynamic and rewarding.”
