Working principle
Pressure switches are an electromechanical device that monitors the pressure level of a fluid and activates or deactivates an electrical circuit when a preset pressure threshold is reached.
In automotive pneumatic and hydraulic systems, the pressure switch is typically connected directly to the pressure line. As the system pressure rises or falls, the medium (air or fluid) acts upon a sensing element inside the switch – such as a diaphragm or piston. When the pressure reaches the defined minimum or maximum setpoint, the sensing element mechanically actuates a microswitch.
This action either opens or closes the electrical circuit, triggering a response such as activating a warning light, engaging a compressor, or controlling a valve – ensuring the system operates within safe and efficient parameters.
